The Chequers

One to avoid! Terrible overpriced and inflexible! They need a new cook!
Dreadful food dreadful service incredibly overpriced even by Bath's standards. Jamies Italian and Marco pierre whites are far cheaper and at least the food is good.
Terrible service greasy food and very expensive. Even though they say there are vegi options when you turn up there really aren't any which is surprising in 2011!! Plate of vegetable was THE only option and that was £10!!
Avoid this place they're either incapable or just don't care about pleasig the customer!

Been to the Chequers previously for beer and bread/olives and was impressed by the service, food (albeit only bread etc) and the menu. Finally managed to get into Bath on a Friday for lunch so thought we would give it a try. Menu looked good, interior looked smashing with large candles (and candelabra) burning away. But we didn't cross the threshold ...... wooooh, the Mystery of the Chequers ...... okay, I'll tell you why - the music (or musak as Jonathan Meades used to call it) was driving us barmy even whilst outside! Being old gits of the first order, when we lunch we would like to hear the hum of conversation, the chink of glasses, the pulling of beer and perhaps a bit of street hubbub too. I really don't get it: tastes in music differ enormously; it's highly unlikely that a venue would play anything (other than certain jazz) that I would like 'with my lunch' (or whilst I shop) - we can't escape the 'musak' - aaaaaaaaaaaargh. Went to Loch Fyne.
